Arch Street Park: Lawrenceburg & Aurora, as sister cities, work together to ensure expansive playground sets continue to provider fun across the region

Healthy Living, Outdoor Recreation & Quality of Place amenities are important to all our citizens. Starting back in 2020, the Cities of Lawrenceburg and Aurora worked together, thru municipal collaboration, to repurpose outgoing playground equipment at the Arch Street Park in Lawrenceburg to land at the Aurora City Park in Aurora. The City of Lawrenceburg had approved an updated playground structure with facility improvements to the Arch Street Park to be completed in June of 2021.

The City of Aurora was responsible for demo and removal of the existing structure to then transfer and install on the Aurora City Park site. The Aurora Riverfront Beautification Committee contributed $4,000 to their project ensuring the playground equipment could be extensively utilized for about $51,000 from the City of Aurora. Installation is now complete. Overall, they are very happy with the equipment and plan to use the smaller playground equipment there previously at the Soccer Complex further up on Park Ave.

Meanwhile, there’s exciting progress this spring in Lawrenceburg, with the new Arch Street Playground almost completely installed with final site work ongoing. The playground, partially funded by a GameTime Grant of $190,403, will be a National Demonstration Site which includes the 7 Principles of Inclusive Playground Design. The Arch Street Playground will feature many exciting amenities such as an ADA accessible Hybrid Structure, more swings, Shadow Play Tri Runner, RoxAll See Saw, Merry Go Round, Infinity Bowl, and Synthetic Turf.  Construction Project Manager Mario Todd shared it “makes you want to be a kid again!”

On Saturday, May 15 th , at 11:00 AM, Aurora Mayor Mark Drury and city officials will kick off festivities with a ribbon cutting of the newly installed playground equipment at the Aurora City Park, 425 Park Avenue, Aurora, IN, 47001.

On Wednesday, June 2 nd , at 5:30 pm Lawrenceburg Mayor Kelly Mollaun, city officials and the Arch Street Playground Committee will have an Opening Rededication Event at the Arch Street Playground located at 251 Arch Street, Lawrenceburg IN 47025.

“Pretty Awesome!” shared Lawrenceburg Councilman Brett Bondurant.   All in all – a great municipal collaboration for recreational fun across the county.
